REup #8 Rest and Relax

REST & RELAX

The word of God is alive and active so rest in Him.

READ:

Hebrews 4:9-13 (NIV)

9There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

REFLECT :

> Who’s Word is Alive and Active?

> Why is the Word of God compared to a weapon?

> When is God watching over you?

> What does “Give Account” mean?

> Does God know your Thoughts and Attitudes?

RESPOND:

> The author of Hebrews (presumably Paul) is reminding the 1st century Disciples of Jesus to remember to Rest (Hebrews 4:8-11). Then the author says that in our rest, we must be obedient, and hold our thoughts and attitudes captive, because the Word of God will judge us.

> As our work, our jobs, our careers, and our obligations cause our physical bodies to be active in response to what we must accomplish, we should be obedient to what the Lord says about rest, and the Sabbath.

>Not only our physical bodies, but we must also rest our minds and keep our thoughts captive. If we’re not physically at work, but our mind is still racing and thinking about work, we aren’t resting.

>(v13)Nothing in all of creation is hidden from God’s sight. Our God wants us to rest. He understands the purpose of it, because he designed it for you to be renewed and restored.

REPENT :

> When was the last time that you Really Really Rested? REPENT!

> Unplugging and unwinding is what God designed. REPENT!

> Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy (Exodus 20:8-10), REPENT!

> Just because you can work, doesn’t mean that you should always be working. REPENT!

REJOICE:

> The creator of the Universe rested, so there is no shame in it.  REJOICE.

> Kick your feet up and read the Word of God knowing that you’re being obedient to Him rather than society’s expectations. REJOICE.

> The company that you work for will replace you by putting someone else in your position if you were to leave. God wants you to rest in Him. REJOICE!
